The Kibble Deception: What is Actually in the Bag?
For decades, the commercial pet food industry has convinced us that the most highly-processed, shelf-stable product on the planet is somehow the healthiest choice for our dogs. It is time to look at the science.
The "Feed-Grade" Loophole
When you look at a bag of traditional kibble, you might see pictures of fresh chicken breasts and vibrant vegetables. However, the legal definition of what goes into pet food is drastically different from human food. Most kibble utilizes "feed-grade" ingredients.
By law, feed-grade meat can include the "4 D's": animals that are dead, dying, diseased, or disabled prior to slaughter. Because these meats cannot legally be sold for human consumption, they are sent to rendering plants, boiled down into a powder called "meat meal," and sold to pet food corporations for pennies.
The Extrusion Problem
Even if a company starts with decent ingredients, the manufacturing process destroys them. Kibble is made through extrusion—a process that blasts the ingredients with temperatures exceeding 200°C (392°F).
The Permanent Destruction of Amino Acids
Dogs are carnivores; they rely on complex amino acids for muscle repair, cognitive function, and immune support. When meat is blasted at 200°C, a chemical reaction occurs. The proteins permanently denature, and essential micronutrients are incinerated.
Because the extrusion process destroys the natural nutrition, kibble manufacturers are forced to spray the burned brown pellets with synthetic vitamin packs and artificial flavor enhancers just to meet minimum survival standards (and to trick your dog into eating it).
The Freshfurst 165°F Protocol
We fundamentally reject the extrusion process. At our Davao City kitchen, we only use 100% human-grade, locally sourced proteins. More importantly, we employ a strict clinical cooking protocol.
Every batch of Freshfurst is gently cooked to exactly 165°F. According to veterinary guidelines, this specific temperature is high enough to eradicate harmful pathogens (like E. coli and Salmonella) but low enough to preserve the delicate, life-giving amino acids your dog needs.
The result? A meal that boasts up to 95% digestibility, compared to the mere 50% digestibility of traditional kibble.
